HIIT workout at home
HIIT (high-intensity interval training) alternates short, intense efforts with rest. In little time it improves cardiovascular fitness and increases calorie burn.
It's demanding: not for day one if you've never trained, nor for people with heart or joint problems without medical clearance. Work for 30 seconds, rest for 30, and complete 3 rounds, 2 or 3 times a week.
Sample plan
Day 1
- Jumping jacks · 3 sets × 30 s
- Squat · 3 sets × 30 s
- Mountain climbers · 3 sets × 30 s
- Push-ups · 3 sets × 30 s
- Burpees · 3 sets × 30 s
Key tips
- Warm up for 5 minutes first: never start cold.
- If your form breaks down, slow down or rest longer.
- Low-impact version: swap jumps for fast marching on the spot.
Frequently asked questions
How many times a week should I do HIIT?
Two or three times is enough; on other days, do strength or easy activity.
Is HIIT better than steady cardio?
Neither is best for everyone: HIIT saves time and steady cardio is easier to sustain. Combining them works well.
